Inernational star Ozgen is returning to Leeds!
— Ozgen in LEEDS – Workshops & Show Night —
We have a day of drama and sparkle set up for you all!
Workshops – Advanced and professionals, take note! For the first time ever, Ozgen will be teaching BOTH workshops dedicated to adv/ pro level dancers! Beginners/ improvers *are* welcome – and it is recommended you attend, you will get a lot out of this! – but come knowing the pace and ability level will be higher.
Show time – ALL groups welcome to perform in the show, which will take place in a small theatre. Priority given to workshop attendees.
NOTE: Workshops and show at *different* venues (see below).
WORKSHOP 1 – 10:00am-12:00pm
– 9/8 Turkish Romany Dance –
Level: Adv/ Pro (Beginners welcome)
Go beyond the basic step and build on your technique. Just as an Egyptian audience would expect Saidi in a performance set, a Turkish set requires a 9/8 rhythm Turkish Romany dance! This infectious style will delight your Turkish audience and others alike! Learn the moves and steps of ‘Roman Havası’ (“Romany air/ feel”), followed by a mini choreography. Open to newcomers to the rhythm. Come and learn from the master!
WORKSHOP 2 – 12:30-2:30pm
– Turkish Style Drum Solo –
Level: Adv/ Pro (Beginners welcome)
All drum solos weren’t made equal…! – What makes a drum solo Turkish style? What flavour and combinations can you add to your drum solo to give it a different feel? Just for fun or to perform specifically for your niche audiences, come learn a drum solo choreography that is quintessentially Turkish bellydance in style to add to your repertoire!
The studio has a lovely small lounge area with free tea and coffee (donation box), so you can enjoy a break and chat in the middle without having to leave the venue. Aaah, *stretch*!
@ The Dance Studio Leeds, Mabgate Mills, LS9 7SW
FREE parking in the mills complex.
SHOW NIGHT – 7-10:30pm
A glittering, intimate evening of performances by local groups and the star himself, Ozgen! Priority will be given to groups, especially those who are attending workshops too. All performers must buy a show ticket. With backstage being small in comparison to the big number of dancers we will have, (where possible) we recommend coming ready made up and in costume.
